Luke is in his senior year of high school with his best friend John. Their days are spent in the rehearsal room playing with their band and at school.
Luke dates a girl named Giulia, known at a pool party at Giovanni’s house the summer before, even though he feels something for her best friend, Chiara.
Luke and John are not satisfied with their relationship with girls: every weekend they go dancing, they know many girls but they never manage to conclude as they would like.
Luke is engaged so the lack of results does not bother him too much but he wonders how the relationship between guys and girls would change if sex did not exist.
He then shares with John and his other friends the theory that the power in relationships with the other sex is entirely in the hands of the girls, who choose with whom to go out.
Luke wants to get into this dynamic, get to know it better, understand the degree of awareness that girls have with regard to the power they exercise over men.
On the other hand, he also wants to find out if the masculine approach is always oriented towards a single end: sex. And then he wants to find out how the balance of power between males and females would change once sex is abandoned.
So, together with John and all the high school guys, he decides to organize a test, a sort of social experiment: for a month all the school guys will stop dating girls and will only treat them as friends.
According to Luke this could upset the status quo and help the guys have concrete answers and results in the relationship with the other sex. Luke, being in a relationship with Giulia, thinks that the test will not influence him directly, but the situation changes when Giulia leaves him at the school party.
He now suddenly finds himself personally involved in the experiment he devised.
Luke and John communicate with all the school guys through a facebook group and on October 1st the test begins.
In the first phase the guys cannot do anything with the girls: neither get to know them, nor kiss them, nor go to bed.
The results are immediate: the girls who are used to being courted every day find themselves displaced and notice the difference.
Luke thus sees that the balance of power is already beginning to change. This change makes all the guys aware that by doing so they can regain some of their power in the relationship with the other sex.
Some girls who have always been aloof now show interest but the guys who are loyal to the rules can do nothing.
Luke and John then decide to start phase two of the test: now the guys can kiss the girls but always with the prohibition of complete sexual intercourse. Giulia asks Luke to meet her to explain the reason for the breakup of the relationship.
She apologizes and tries to mend the tear. Luke is now undecided.
A part of him wants to go back with Giulia but at the same time the test gives him new energy and curiosity in exploring the relationship with the other sex. He decides then to leave the decision pending.
In the meantime, Chiara has come forward to take advantage of the breakup of the relationship between the two.
Meanwhile, phase two of the test confirms what was experienced in the first. The guys of the school begin to have concrete results that they did not suspect they could achieve before. Luke, while remaining single dates Chiara but the two feel guilty for Giulia.
Luke begins to have some girls who come forward and find himself in difficulty, both because of his relationship with Giulia and because the rules of the test prohibit too much involvement.
In part he breaks the rules and finds himself dating more than one girl at a time, going well beyond the kiss.
He also goes to bed with Chiara and when Giulia finds out, she suffers a lot. Luke then finds himself having to manage the triangle with Giulia and Chiara in addition to the other girls he dates.
He talks with John and together they decide to give life to phase three of the test: now all the guys of the school can get up to the complete relationship with a girl and thanks to the knowledge acquired with the experiment, they are able to choose the right girl without accepting them all for lack of alternatives.
Giulia forgives Luke who continues to dates both her and Chiara. Luke realizes that he has changed profoundly thanks to the test and that he is a different guy than the one at the beginning. Before the experiment it was difficult for him to find a girl while now he has many possibilities, not knowing which one to choose.
Everything changes after an incredible party at Chiara’s home when Luke wakes up alone with the feeling that the whole previous month was not real. He finds himself in his bed, without Giulia and Chiara at his side.
At school all the girls who greeted him during the test now do not deign to note him. A strong fear assails him but he realizes that he has the power to ensure that what he has lived can become true.
